The term "Levee District" is a geographical area that is defined by law and includes all of the land and water area within the
parishes, not just the levees. The Tensas Basin Levee District is comprised of eight parishes and extends into more than one
State Police Troop. It includes the parishes of Caldwell, Catahoula, Franklin, LaSalle, Morehouse, Ouachita, Richland and
West Carroll. Levee District Police Offices are located in the Atchafalaya Basin Levee District, East Jefferson Levee District, Lafourche Basin Levee District, Lake Borgne Levee District, Orleans Levee District, Pontchartrain Levee District and Tensas Basin Levee District. There are approximately two hundred police officers working land and marine operations within the State. The Levee Districts are decentralized and operate independently on a daily basis.
