They make drug busts, arrest drunk drivers, recover stolen vehicles and contraband and seize illegal weapons. They are
responsible for the enforcement and investigation of all state laws including criminal, environmental, marine safety,
narcotics, traffic and wildlife laws. They are among the best-trained law enforcement personnel. The Levee District Police
patrol hundreds of miles of waterways and roadways within their districts. Levee District Police are cross-trained to perform
many functions in their day-to-day activities. Today, more emphasis is given to anti-crime techniques and anti-terrorism
efforts. Specialized patrols such as motorcycle, bike, ATV and foot patrols let officers chase down crooks wherever they run.
The Levee District Police not only patrol in cars, but also, patrol their areas utilizing four-wheel drive vehicles which
enable the officer to not only patrol streets and highways, but also access those hard to reach areas such as remote rivers,
bayous and woodlands to accomplish their tasks. In addition to their regular law enforcement function, Levee District Police
also perform specialized services such as search and rescue operations and are responsible for crash/fire/rescue. Levee
District Police are doing everything they can to stem the flood of crime. Levee District Police also have responsibility under state law to provide general law enforcement on the surrounding waters of the districts. They are responsible for maintaining order and exercising general police powers by intervening independently, when necessary, to restore order, protect life and property and prevent crime. Normal marine law enforcement activities are accomplished through a fleet of patrol vessels. Daily activities range from criminal patrol to water rescue, underwater search rescue, and specialized crash/fire/rescue retrieval consisting of a team specially trained on the water to retrieve victims/survivors. Levee District Police coordinate their efforts with the numerous agencies on a regular basis and maintain constant contact with other law enforcement and security organizations at the local, state and federal levels. Among these include: The U.S. Coast Guard, U. S. Corps of Engineers, U.S. Customs Service, Federal Aviation Administration, Federal Bureau of Investigations, U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service, local police and Sheriff's departments, Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries' Law Enforcement Division, Civil Defense and others. From the banks of a lonely bayou to the Gulf of Mexico; from the rural deltas to the inner-cities, Levee District Police are having an arresting impact on crime. They are doing everything they can to stem the flood of crime.
